Do You Realize??
The biggest hurdle I battle daily is reminding myself “I’m not publishing everything I write.”
Sitting down and writing simply for the habit feels like a waste of time.
If I’m not posting it, why am I writing it?
Well, it’s clearly important to practice but practicing feels like a waste of time.
Even practice should feel like you’re working towards something.
Or does it? Maybe, the idea of practice in itself is working towards the meta goal.
Some tasks may not contribute to the project but the experience obtained from trial and error compounds into something bigger. It offers wisdom that can be used later to refine and build upon.
Wisdom is the secret ingredient they don’t teach in Ivy League schools.
Education is the knowledge to know yes, the chemicals under the kitchen sink when combined together will create a small explosion with enough fuel to propel your little brother on your makeshift rocket but wisdom will tell you it’s a bad idea.
Wisdom is the trick that makes the good, great. Wisdom is the one secret that you can only learn by doing. By failing, by sitting alone at night and asking yourself “Am I a joke to the world?” Wisdom is face paint worn from the blood of your enemy and your enemy is time.
Facing time is recognizing our finality. It’s a constant reminder that every moment we spend is one less moment in this world. Again, we can extract wisdom from that. The knowledge that we’re hurling on a floating rock into eternal darkness should be enough motivation.
Or maybe it’s not. Maybe the world is better with you watching Netflix, only you know.
I’ll keep writing.
